Judy Katz Carter

Judy has faced three battles with breast cancer—hormone-positive, triple-negative, and HER2-positive. Her story is about finding strength in the hardest moments and never giving up.

In 1996, Judy was married, working full-time, and raising two boys, ages 7 and 9, when she was diagnosed with hormone receptor-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer. Treatments were different then. She had all the lymph nodes in her right arm removed, followed by chemo and radiation. It was a tough road, but Judy kept going, raising her boys and taking hormone blockers for 10 years.

In 2011, Judy and her husband Garrie moved to Florida, ready for a fresh start. They had built a life filled with love, working in health care, and raising two Eagle Scouts. But their joy was cut short when Garrie was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Losing him was devastating, and not long after, Judy faced breast cancer for the second time.

In 2023, after celebrating one year cancer-free, Judy noticed discharge from her right breast. Tests confirmed it was triple-negative breast cancer, and she needed a mastectomy. The treatment wasn’t smooth—Keytruda damaged her liver, forcing her to stop chemo early. It felt like a setback, but Judy didn’t give up.

In 2024, bloodwork revealed elevated ALP levels, and scans confirmed the cancer had spread to her spine—stage 4 metastatic and HER2-positive. After completing 10 rounds of radiation, Judy is now undergoing chemo with Enhertu.

Judy credits her sons, family, and community for helping her through the hardest times. “Ashley and the BCFCF community have been my lifeline. The love and encouragement I’ve received keep me going.” Through BCFCF, Judy has found incredible friendships that remind her she’s never alone in this fight.

Three battles with breast cancer have tested Judy’s limits, but she continues to find hope and strength. Now, she dreams of taking a scenic train trip across the country—a reminder that even in life’s hardest moments, there’s still beauty and joy to be found.
