Hi. My name is Tina Moffitt. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in May of 2021. I had invasive ductal carcinoma her2 negative, PR and or positive stage 1b. Since the age of 21 I have had mammograms, at the age of 35 I started having mammograms twice a year and at the age of 40 I had diagnostic mammograms and ultrasounds. I have had 2 biopsies. The first one was negative 4 years later and the second was positive for cancer. I guess you can say my boobs have tried to kill me for a long time. My cancer was caught early because of all of my mammograms. I elected to have a bilateral mastectomy with no chemo or radiation. I thought that taking my boobs away would be the easiest way for me.
What I didn’t realize was the emotional and psychological impact this would have on my life. You see I have always been introverted and this cancer journey almost made me a hermit. The emotional stress this caused was life altering. Physically I’m not the person I was before cancer and psychologically I’m not the person I was before cancer. I don’t laugh as much, I’m more cynical and not as positive as I was. I’m trying to get back to the old Tina but it’s a struggle. Every ache, cough, sneeze I have to talk myself down from thinking my cancer is back. I would not wish this on anyone. My heart breaks for anyone that has any type of cancer.
I have been volunteering to different breast cancer charities for the last 5 years. I found the Breast Cancer foundation of central Florida through a charity I was volunteering for that was closing their doors. This charity is amazing, the director Ashley is amazing and all the volunteers that I have met are great. Their compassion is amazing. I love what they stand for and look forward to continuing to volunteer for them for years to come.
